The Culture of Chinese Dating

In the past the culture of Chinese dating does not exists even during the ancient history of China. In the older days, marriages are pre-arranged by Chinese parents for their children. Marriage for Chinese people is primarily a continuation of family observance of filial piety and line. It is also a fulfillment of family obligation. Apparently, in the modern times, the culture of Chinese dating had become instrumental whereas it became a natural way of selecting a suitable marital partner. Let us discuss more in this article the culture of Chinese dating and how it emerged throughout the years.

During the 1950s, the democratic law of marriage was enacted. This is during the time of the China communist revolution. This is also the time when the art of Chinese dating started to evolve. The law states that both parties should be willing for the marriage and no other external force can interfere. In the 1980s, the communist party of China socialist influences the behaviors and attitudes of Chinese people when it comes to dating. The centralized Chinese culture viewed dating to be a way of seeking entertainment and fun as immoral.

Compared to other culture of Asian dating, the culture of Chinese dating is viewed to be highly authoritarian of single rights and liberties in the older days. This culture had been passed down throughout generations and family became a crucial part of it. However, since the modernization of China in 1990s, the dating culture of Chinese people had become more liberal and open.

Nowadays, Chinese men are more supreme than Chinese women are. This does not only apply to gender issues but other issues as well. Just like other Asian girls, the major role of Chinese women is to take care of her husband and children.

There are different social norms in Chinese dating. One of these is the number of experienced dating relationship that a Chinese adult had. This social norm serves as an indicator of the reputation and character of the person. If a Chinese adult had more number of dating relationships, he or she had means immoral, unchaste, and promiscuous. Young Chinese adults who have numerous romantic dating relationships or experiences, they are usually condemned by the social norms. This is because the culture of Chinese dating has less tolerance for young adults.

Compared to other Asia dating culture, the culture of Chinese dating has highly conservative traditions. Premarital sex is strictly not allowed in any dating couple unless they are married. Dating only one person and marrying him or her will give a Chinese individual the high moral standards than those ones who have numerous dating experiences prior to marriage.
